World Science Festival 2009: Bobby McFerrin Demonstrates the Power of the Pentatonic Scale from World Science Festival on Vimeo.

Pronounced ‘Reeves’. Rhymes with ‘weaves’. And weaves he does. Words, ideas, sounds. here’s a nice little blurb taken from his blog:
PUPIL
Pronounced: “PYOO pul”
Pupil comes from the Latin word pupilla, meaning “doll,” “puppet,” or “little person,” which is why we call schoolchildren “pupils.”
But “pupil” the eye part? Same deal: when you look into someone’s eyes, you see a miniature reflection of yourself in their pupils.
And that’s the most romantic etymology in the whole wide world.
You may have seen him before on Ted.com or Def Poetry Slam. I came across his name again after some youtubing. Turns out he’s been hard at work this time for…Tommy Hilfiger? Sure thing. He’s been coupled with Leonardo Didouchebag’s ex-girlfriend and Sport’s Illustrated cover model Bar Refaeli to do a show exploring American pop culture and where it all came from. It’s pretty smart stuff: who popularized eye make-up and how does that relate to the Headless Horseman? Plus, the Bar Refaeli eye candy doesn’t hurt either.
Here’s that link it runs a spell over 45 minutes in 5 segments.
World renowned industrial designer, Philippe Starck riffs on super monkeys, posture, and our obligation to participate. It’s so brilliant, especially since he hasn’t formally prepared to speak on anything. And he’s speaking to a crowd of former presidents, nobel laureates, and so forths. What joyful swagger. And what great ideas…
Take care in this training to be a good mutant, there is a trap…God is a trap. God is the answer when we don’t know the answer.
Sound Engineer, Tom Dowd, recorded for the likes of Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles, Eric Clapton, Otis Redding, John Coltrane, The Allman Brothers Band, Tito Puente, Dizzy Gillespie, Thelonious Monk, Cream, Rod Stewart, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Booker T. & the MG’s and a bunch of others. I just stumbled across his name today. And found this fantastic video of him behind the soundboards. A real pleasure. The guy’s a wizard.
The video briefly explores the collaboration of Eric Clapton and Duane Allman, and shows Mr. Dowd doing what he do.
If, for some godforsaken reason you haven’t(?) heard the song Layla before, you should stick a finger in your eyeball, and then play the track below the video.
Tom Dowd’s wizardry comes in at around 1:53
To commemorate the announcement of Apple’s newest version of it’s flagship iPhone, I thought I’d post a link to Last Year’s Model. hahah
